About the Author

Life Is Strange. My Stories Are Stranger.

J. Paddy Spaight is a master of the unanticipated. For over three decades, he has been weaving narratives that explore the thin line between the mundane and the extraordinary. From his roots in Queens to the rugged coastlines of Ireland that inspire so much of his work, Paddy captures the essence of human resilience when faced with impossible odds. His stories aren't just about the mystery; they are about the people who solve them, survive them, or sometimes, are consumed by them. He still lives in Queens with his wife, Billie, of forty-one years.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

The Trip to Ireland That Never Happened

How a broken ankle, a milk carton of shamrocks, and a bird that raised the dead made me a novelist.

I never planned to become a novelist. All I wanted was to visit the Irish cottage where my grandfather was born. But an inheritance from my aunt, my wife’s broken ankle, and an imaginary vacation changed everything. Somewhere along the way, a bird that could bring dead people back to life entered the picture. And that’s how Shadow’s Prisoners—and my writing career—began.
